Our Impact

Stronger teaching.
Deeper learning. Citizenship in action.

A teacher brings fresh ideas into the classroom. A student gains confidence explaining American history. Young people use their skills to help their neighbors.

Your support helps teachers and students develop the knowledge, judgment, and civic virtues needed to participate thoughtfully in the practice of self-government.

Helping Teachers Deepen
History and Civic Learning

Teachers can choose from more than 6,000 free resources, including lessons, primary sources, videos, and activities that help students examine America’s history and founding principles.

That support extends beyond classroom materials. In 2025, BRI delivered 315 in-person programs that engaged more than 6,500 educators, providing opportunities to deepen their knowledge and discover approaches to teaching.

Looking Closely at What Students Learn

A 2025 evaluation by Georgetown University’s Civic Education Research Lab examined two BRI Jr. learning modules with more than 400 fourth- and fifth-grade students.

The study assessed students before and after lessons about America’s westward expansion or the effects of industrialization and immigration. Students in both groups improved their subject knowledge and reported greater confidence explaining the material.

These findings describe learning in the participating classrooms. Research like this helps BRI understand how its resources are used and identify opportunities to improve them.

Recognizing Young People Who Put Citizenship Into Practice

When their grandparents struggled with everyday technology, sisters Medha and Reshma Lalani of Hempfield High School saw an opportunity to help. They founded Tech Buddies, a youth-led initiative connecting student volunteers with older adults for free, personalized technology assistance.

The contest recognized student service and entrepreneurship connected to founding principles and civic virtues. Tech Buddies shows what that can look like: noticing a need, taking responsibility, and using your skills to serve others.
