In this lesson, students will read about and discuss how Booker T. Washington remained diligent about obtaining an education. They will draft an illustrated “map” of Booker T. Washington’s journey toward an education, and they will discuss how they can be diligent in their own lives.

In this lesson, students will understand the importance of being diligent in their lives by examining the life of Alexander Hamilton. They will read a narrative about Hamilton and discuss the ways in which he remained diligent in different periods of his life. They will analyze Hamilton quotations to understand how he acted with diligence and how they can act with diligence in their own lives. Finally, students will create a plan about how to act diligently regarding a project, task, or situation in their own lives.

In this lesson, students will analyze James Madison’s contributions through diligence to the establishment of the United States Constitution and early republic, exploring events that earned him the title, “Father of the Constitution.”

Students will explore the difficulties faced by the Lewis and Clark expedition as they faced the challenges of portaging around the unexpectedly vast Great Falls of the Missouri River. They will read and discuss the narrative and ask questions about identity, purpose, and motivation.

In this lesson, students will understand the diligent behavior Sacagawea displayed throughout her journey with the Lewis and Clark expedition. They will also think about ways in which they can be diligent in their own lives.

In this lesson, students will learn about the actions of Paul Revere during his midnight ride in April of 1775. They will study how his diligence in working towards American independence helped to advance the cause and use this example to better understand how they can be diligent in their own lives.

In this lesson, students will review Henry Knox’s diligent actions in leading his troops to provide the weapons needed to force the British to evacuate Boston and end their eleven-month siege of the city. Henry Knox and his brother, William, led a group of men on a roughly 500-mile round trip to recover artillery from Fort Ticonderoga, move it across land and water in the depth of winter, and position it to overlook the city and port of Boston.
